Cross Border eCommerce in Russia

Oct 12, 2016

At 17 million km2, Russia is the largest country on earth and without a shadow of a doubt, it provides an enormous opportunity for e-retailers.

Why? More than 143.7 million people live in Russia, which makes it the 9th biggest country in the world. In early 2014, 59% of the adult population (69 million people) had access to the Internet, making Russia Europe’s number one in terms of Internet users[i].

Cross-border shopping is the fastest-growing segment of the Russian ecommerce market and in 2014 cross-border shoppers placed 47 million orders at foreign ecommerce sites. And with international ecommerce currently only representing 2% of the total retail market there is still plenty of room for growth.

The numbers certainly stack up but there are also a lot of factors to take into consideration before retailers start selling in this vast region.

Seeing as we know a thing or two about eCommerce, our friends at eCommerce Worldwide and IMRG recently asked us to provide the low down on cross border eCommerce in Russia.
