This is what we found out, straight from the retailers themselves!
- Privacy is a key concern for German consumer
They tend to be more reluctant to hand over their data, therefore if you can supply a suitable cross-border plan for German customers, it will be sufficient for the whole of the EU. Ensure you have a secure system, to develop trust with German customers. In order to do this, you may want to consider using well known payment engines / platforms.
- German consumers appreciate targeted delivery in their areas (e.g. Munich, Dortmund, Berlin)
Having multiple injection points around Germany, as well as in areas densely populated by your consumers, will not only please your customers, but also allow your products to be delivered throughout the country, as well as giving your consumers a better experience.
- Buying patterns are very different in Germany
No Sunday trading means an increase in weekend orders; plus, German consumers tend to purchase earlier than UK consumers around the holidays. It would be wise to have robust operation schedules, and a customer service team ready to handle the influx in customer queries around these time periods.
- Germany has one of the highest returns rates in the world
Both consumers and retailers need a fast, cost-effective method for sending orders back so that the refunds can be processed quickly, and the goods can be put back into stock.
