Logistics and the Environment

Oct 16, 2019

In a world that is becoming more environmentally conscious, we have been focusing on how we can help. As part of our corporate social responsibility, we have worked with multiple companies to analyse and improve our processes and networks. From environmental volunteering, to opening our office garden, to using double decker flights in an aim reduce trips; wnDirect have been on an environmental journey (to read more about this, please click here).

Having been acquired by Asendia, we have been sharing our methods to reduce our carbon footprints. Asendia introduced us to the Woodland Trust and the work they are doing.

The Woodland Trust are the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity, established in 1972. In that time, they have planted over 43 million tees, own over 1,000 woods across the UK and have even bought a mountain! Their aim by 2025, is to plant a tree for every person in the UK.

As a logistics company, we are continually researching new ways to stop global warming and reduce our carbon footprint. It’s great to hear about how Asendia have been proactive in working with the Woodland Trust, to develop and implement carbon offsetting in addition to their other schemes.

Since 2014, Asendia and one of their partners have contributed an incredible £142,504 to the Woodland Trust, which is the equivalent to almost 600 memberships each year. It may be hard to imagine the effect this has had on the UK, so to break it down, this equates to:

  • 57,002 trees
  • 88 acres
  • 14,250 tonnes of CO2 offset

In addition to working with the Woodland Trust, Asendia aims to reduce the overall amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by their business activities. They are proud to say they are 100% carbon neutral on their European international transport and operations. They do this by using an offsetting project in India, investing in 7 windfarms, which produces renewable energy equivalent to the annual power consumption of 600,000 individuals.

Here at wnDirect we are really proud to be part of a company that is helping support the local environment in the UK, as well as trying to reduce their impact on the global atmosphere, and it is something we will look to continue into 2020.
