Shipping options and delivery partners essential to winning the eCommerce battle

New research from Accenture shows that the right delivery partners and easy website navigation with multiple shipping options are critical success factors for eTailers as nearly two-thirds of digitally savvy consumers report basing a purchase decision on delivery options.

The study (Differentiating Delivery: How to Win the eCommerce Battle), which surveyed more than 1,100 small- and medium-sized businesses across 10 countries and five continents, examined the increasingly competitive delivery market that has emerged from the continuing growth in eCommerce. One of the key findings of the study was that that organisations need to make “effective, dependable delivery options a priority in order to remain competitive”.

The study showed that two-thirds of consumers have chosen a retailer based on the number of delivery options and three-quarters look at a retailer’s return policy before completing an order. This comes as no surprise to us as our own international consumer research, carried out at the end of last year, found that shipping options are a top priority for customers in Russia, Germany and Australia and that those in Italy and Japan are most likely to be reassured by a retailer's returns policy.
