Mobiles are playing an increasingly larger role in the eCommerce shopping experience both internationally and domestically. By 2020, it is expected that 940 million online shoppers will spend almost $1 trillion on cross-border eCommerce transactions. Contributing to this growth, will be the rise of purchases made on mobile devices, as consumers are likely to take advantage of how quickly and easily they are able to purchase on the go.

According to research from Pitney Bowes, mobile devices are playing a vital role in the consumer journey. Nearly 50% of shoppers in Singapore, China, Mexico and India use their phones or tablets to browse eCommerce websites. Additionally, the majority of consumers in China, India and Singapore use their mobile devices to track the delivery of purchases they have made.

So this might come as old news to some of you, after all, it is 2017 and smartphones have been around for almost 10 years now. Despite this, research from Barclays revealed that nearly 70% of retailers don’t have a mobile-friendly website or app. Yet 25% of consumers are more likely to make a purchase if they can order from their mobile.

With increasing numbers of consumers browsing the internet on their mobiles, retailers need to build a purchasing journey that works on any device. Offering a quick, sleek mobile experience may encourage smartphone-oriented shoppers in Latin America, or tech-savvy consumers from China and American to buy from a UK business.
